Sixers, run-outs and plenty of action
In 2003, a quiet revolution began. The form of cricket known as
Twenty20 or T20, was introduced in England and Wales; with the intention
of creating a more lively form of the game which would be both
attractive to spectators and those watching on television.
The effect was amazing. The new form of the game began drawing in
viewers and spectators thanks to fast paced action and competition at
its finest.
Through promotions such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), T20
became ever popular. The game raised the bar in terms of fitness levels
of players, promotion and the view of cricket itself – once honoured as
the ‘gentlemen’s game’ and now looked upon as boring and stodgy.
Since its inception, the game has now spread, with the inaugural ICC
World Twenty20 being played in South Africa in 2007.
This year, Sri Lanka plays host to the 4th ICC World Twenty20, a
great honour for a country renowned throughout the cricketing world as a
force to be reckoned with.
From September 18 to October 7, the island will be gripped in true
cricket fever, with fans clamoring for tickets to the matches which are
to be played in Kandy, Colombo and Hambantota.
To provide an alternate option to witness history come to life, and
yet retain the sense and ambiance of a live match, the Jetwing hotels in
