Wesley rout fancied Kingswood 26-15

Wesley College, Colombo created a major upset when they beat
Kingswood College by 26 points ( three goals, one try ) to 15 (a goal, a
try and a penalty) points in the curtain raiser of the Milo President's
Trophy Knockout Rugby Tournament 2012 played at Royal College Sports
Complex yesterday.
Kingswoodians opened their account with a 25 metre penalty by winger
A.R.Wijesinghe In the 35th minute, Wesley College came back fighting
with a solitary try by Lock Forward Gavin Siegertz , where Rahul de
Silva missed the conversion.
Prop forward N.D.Perera scored the second try for Kingswood College
in the 41st minute, while it was successfully converted by Wijesinghe
making it 10 – 5 at half time infavour of Kingswood.
In the second half, the Wesleyites reduced the deficit when Gavin
Siegertz dashed through another try (10 all).
The Kingswoodians lose the rare chance of regaining the lead as they
missed a 35 metre penalty. Udara Gayan scored another try for Wesley and
Gavin scored his third try making it 20 – 10 for Wesley, while Rahul de
Silva added the finishing touches for all the tries scored in the second
half (Wesley led 26 – 10)
Shortwhile, before the final whistle, Kingswood's flanker
K.Chathuranga sliced through a try to lift their scores to 15 points
although K.N.Perera missed the conversion. But it wasn't enough to avert
the pressure from the rivals as they made the target difficult for Kandy
lads with their strong defence and aggressive attack. Dimithri
Gunasekara referred the match.
Today, St.Anthony's College, Katugastota will take on Dharmaraja
College, Kandy at 4.15pm at Royal College Sports Complex, Colombo 7.
