Sahan shines for Mahanama

All rounder Sahan Pieris, a right hand bat and right arm medium fast
bowler has performed well for Mahanama College Colombo in the under-15
division one cricket tournament this season.
Batting at number four he has scored 419 runs with two centuries and
a half century to his credit. He scored 139 runs in 104 balls with 21
boundaries and four sixes in a first round match against Ananda
Sasthralya Pitakotte and 120 runs in 117 balls with 17 boundaries and
two sixes against S Thomas’ College Mt Lavinia in the second round of
the tournament.
He scored 52 off 66 balls nine boundaries in the first round match
against St Anthony’s College Wattala. Mahanama have qualified for the
quarterfinals of the tournament and Sahan has the opportunity to reach
the 500 run mark this season.
Sahan led the Mahanama team in round one and opted to be vice captain
in round two to concentrate on his batting.
In 2010, leading the Mahanama division one team for the under 13
tournament, he scored 367 runs with two half centuries against St
Peter’s and Royal. He captured 15 wickets with a best of 3/13 against
Maristella College Negombo. Mahanama College qualified for the quarter
finals of the tournament that year too.
Competing in the inter house swimming meet in 2012 he was adjudged
the under 15 champion. Sahan has decided to concentrate on his cricket
and fore go competitive swimming other than the inter house meets.
