Weapons found near helipad

The STF headquarters search unit recovered a large stock of weapons and explosives hidden in the ground near a beach in Vellamullivaikkal in Mullaitivu.

A search team led by SI W M Amila detected the weapons haul while they were searching in the vicinity of the helipad on Tuesday.

The STF recovered 27 T 56 weapons receiving covers, bolts, 48 magazines with and without bullets, two M G M G weapons, six unidentified weapon barrels, one signal pistol, MGMJ and T56 LMG drums, RPG chargers, communication equipment, battery packs, one anti armoured car gun, 200 links of M G M links, 200 bullets of an unidentified variety, a set of combat uniform. Mullaitivu Police are investigating.
