Agri produce sans weedicide
Priyanka Kurugala
The Indigenous Medicine Ministry has taken measures to establish a
model village which can produce agricultural products free from
pesticide and weedicide use to eradicate the wide spread kidney disease
in the country.
The lack of purified water, especially in the Northern Central
Province, have been identified as the chief cause for kidney disease.
Poverty is another reason, ministry sources said. The ministry selected
Hatangama in Moragollagama in the Galgamuwa electorate in Kurunegala
district to launch this project.
It has been named Hatagama Tharuna Osu- Govi Samodana Wiyapruthi
Gammanaya. Under this project, 50 families in the village will be
provided saplings of vegetables and seeds, funds for preparing soil ,
organic fertiliser, herbal plants, rain water tanks, technical knowledge
and training.
