Bus plunges down precipice:
Thirty one injured
Thirty one people including the driver were injured when a private
bus which was traveling from Kandy to Ampara plunged down a precipice at
Galekele on the Kandy - Mahiyangana Road yesterday afternoon.
The injured were admitted to the Medamahanuwara Hospital. Three
seriously injured persons were later transferred to the Kandy Hospital
for further treatment, sources said..
Unholy tryst with the deities spells trouble for farmer

A man who was on his way to offer a pooja to the deities at a local
shrine, was arrested with a satchel of kassippu in his possession. The
incident took place in Wela Ihala, Handapangoda on Sunday. The suspect
aged 57, is a farmer resident in Handapangoda.
He had gone to the temple in the area with a pooja watti and when the
Police checked him, found a satchel of kasippu in his possession. The
suspect told police he was taking the kassippu to join friends for a
party after the pooja.
The suspect was produced before the Horana magistrate yesterday.
Ingiriya Police are investigating.
Book launch
A book written by Divaina senior journalist Shyam Nuwan Ganewatta
titled, 'The future of our economy' ( Ape Arthikaye heta dawasa ) will
be launched at the hall at the Colombo International Book Fair, BMICH
today at 11a.m.
The first copy of this book was handed over to Finance and Planning
Ministry Secretary and Treasury Secretary Dr P B Jayasundera by the
writer yesterday at the ministry premises.
Adventure in steam.... British era, a book authored by H.U.
Tibotumunuwe will be launched at the Public Library Auditorium on
September 20 at 10.30 a.m. W.K.B. Weragama ex General Manager, Sri Lanka
Railway will be the chief guest.
Schools given funds
Five schools in Karaveddy Pradeshiya Sabha have been given Rs 50,000
each from the decentralized budget to purchase musical instruments. Five
sports clubs have also been given Rs 50,000 each by Minister Douglas
Devananda and EPDP Parliamentarian Sylvester Allantin.
Late Rohan Wanaguru - Memorial Service
The Old Boys of St. Benedict's College have made arrangements to have
a memorial service for late Rohan Wanaguru – a Benedictine, past first
XI cricket captain and coach in remembrance of the first month since his
death. A memorial service will be held at St. Lucia's Cathedral,
Kotahena September 20 at 6.00 pm. All young and old boys and their
families are invited.
These triplets need your help

W Beula Krishanthi (37), a mother of four of Hele Watta, Walgama South,
Matara who has given birth to triplets (all boys) recently says her
family is facing difficulties in bringing up the new born triplets due
to their present financial plight.
She says they need at least Rs 2,000 daily for the upkeep of the
triplets including their nutrition and medical attention.
Although she is employed ,the salary earned is insufficient for the
family's upkeep since her husband Y Jayawardena is without a permanent
job.
She requests philanthropists and the public to assist her children's
cause by sending whatever financial assistance to help in the upkeep of
the triplets. Contributions can be remitted to account number
1-0004-88-21127 at the National Savings Bank, Matara Branch.
Conference
The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and
Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) will host its fifth National Conference on
Reconciliation under the topic 'The Role of Information Communications
Technology (ICT) in Reconciliation' today from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. at
the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute at Horton Place in Colombo 7.
The event will be followed by a session of questions and answers and
networking. External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris will preside.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga will deliver the keynote
address.

Pabasara Gee
Pabasara Gee 2012, a music orchestra organized by music unit of the
President's college Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte to develop art skills
among schoolchildren will be held at the School auditorium on September
21 at 6.30 pm. Eduction Minister Banduala Gunawardena will be the chief
guest.
Musician Rohana Weerasinghe, Yamuna Vinodani, Champa Kalhari and
Mekala Gamage will perform to the music of schoolchildren.
