Funded by the Government of the Peoples Republic of China,
construction of the Hambantota International Airport is currently
underway in Mattala and once completed, will be Sri Lanka’s second
largest international airport as the Bandaranaike International Airport
stands first.
The new airport is expected to be a catalyst for the country’s
economic development by enabling international trade, tourism,
employment. This project, which began in 2009, is expected to be
completed by the end of 2012.
Access Engineering has been entrusted with the construction of the
Cargo and Fire Rescue Building, design and construction of the Airport
Access Road, Laying of Pipes, construction of a Water Tower and the
construction of a Fuel Hydrant System under the major infrastructure
development of the Hambantota International Airport. The combined value
of these projects amounts to more than Rs. two billion.
Along with the main contractor, the China Harbour Engineering Company
Ltd, Access Engineering was given the responsibility of designing and
constructing the Access Road to the Hambantota International Airport by
Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd.
The 2.5 km road consists of four lanes, consists of a 2 m wide
central median, 3.2 m wide carriageways and 1.1m wide walkways on either
side. The total length of the road is 18.4km.
Access Engineering implemented many value engineering solutions to
reduce costs and improve the quality of the Cargo and Fire Rescue
buildings which is scheduled for completion in October 2012.
The two building have also been given extreme priority in terms of
build quality and timely completion.
Expertise of our support services was utilized extensively and we
even forayed into mechanical installation work such as the 50m span and
100m long roof structure in-house.
Access Engineering acquired and developed the expertise and
specialized knowledge that is required to excel in this fiercely
competitive sector of building construction by gearing up to meet the
challenges and the changes in the economic climate that would bring many
opportunities in the future. The Fuel Hydrant Project within the Mattala
International Airport Apron began in September 2011 and was a critical
component and a challenging task as construction was carried out in
stages, while not causing any disruption to the construction of the
Apron itself.
The Mattala Fuel Hydrant Project was unique as it used sophisticated
and modern technology with strict standards and quality control measures
being implemented throughout.
As a major player in infrastructure development across Sri Lanka,
Access Engineering takes pride to be associated with some of the most
significant projects in the country, which yet again proves that the
company continues to be the partner of choice in value engineering. |
