Schools hockey nationals from tomorrow

The boys and girls schools hockey nationals organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and the Matale Schools Hockey Association will be worked off in Matale from September 15 to 17. The preliminary round matches will be worked off at Edward Park and the finals will be played at the Nandmithra Ekanayake International Hockey Stadium.

Royal College, Colombo won the champonship for boys last year. The defending champions in the segment for girls are Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala.

This being the biggest hockey championship for schools in the country some of the top contenders in the segment for girls are Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya Kandy, Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya Colombo, Visakha Vidyalaya, Pushpadara Girl's College, Kandy, St. Anthony' Girls College, Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Matale, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Colombo, Musaeus College, Vijaya College Matale, and Christ Church College.

The top teams in the Championship for boys are Royal College, St. Thomas' College Matale, Christ Church College Matale, Zahira College Matale, Kingswood College, Dharmaraja College, St. Sylvester's College, Nalanda College, Joseph Vaz College, Wesly College, and Ananda College.
