Navy detects two trawlers

The Navy Thursday arrested another 86 persons illegally bound for Australia on two multi -day trawlers. The trawler Senesha Duwa with 67 persons, including 58 Tamils and nine Sinhalese on board and the other named “Seloni Duwa” with 19 persons including 14 Tamils and five Sinhalese on board were intercepted 20 nautical miles off Chillaw.

Artefact hunters behind bars

Police arrested three suspects while attempting to blast a rock in search of artefacts in Adal Oya. The implements and tools used by the suspects were seized. Police also defused a dynamite the suspects had set to blast the rock.

Arrested with repeater

The Beliatta police arrested two suspects with a foreign made repeater-gun in their possession at Thembiligaswatta Walawela in Nihiluwa on Tuesday. The two suspects are residents of Nihiluwa, Beliatta police said. The Beliatta police are investigating.
