PC polls: UPFA submits nominees’ names

The UPFA which received six bonus seats in the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils at the recently concluded elections, at the rate of two seats per Council, submitted the names of its nominees to the Commissioner of Elections yesterday.

A press release issued by the UPFA said nominees for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils were selected according to the order of the total number of preferential votes obtained by them.

Nominees for the Eastern Provincial Council were selected to provide representation to Trincomalee and Ampara districts, the release said. The release added: “ A Tamil member has been nominated to the Trincomalee district while the candidate who received the next highest number of preferential votes has been nominated for the Ampara district.“The nominations were submitted in writing by UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha in response to a request made by the Elections Commissioner General to the UPFA as the Party which polled the highest number of votes at the recently concluded elections.”
