New President's Counsel
Sarath MALALASEKERA
The Legal Draftsman Padmini Indira Samarasinghe was sworn in as a
President's Counsel resently. Indira, to all her dear and near ones
obtained her primary and secondary education at Visakha Vidyalaya.
Colombo, where she excelled in studies and sports. She joined the Legal
Draftsman's Department in 1979 as an Assistant Legal Draftsman. Before
joining the Department she was attached to Abrahams and De Alwis as a
Legal Assistant.
She practised in both Civil and Criminal Courts as a Legal Assistant
atttached to Abrahams and De Alwis Law Firm until she joined the Legal
Draftsmans Department.
Her service in the Legal Draftsman's Department is over 33 years. She
was attached to the Revision of Legislative Enactment Revision
Commission, a unit established by the Ministry of Justice as an
Assistant Commissioner from 1979 to 1987 to update the laws from 1956 to
1980 under the assistance of the former retired Supreme Court Judge
Hector Deheragoda, headed by former Chief Justice Neville Samarakoon.
She holds a LL.B Degree from the University of Colombo, Law Faculty,
Post Graduate Diploma in International Law and Organisation for
Development, the Hague, the Netherlands and LL.M. From the Monash
University, Australia. At presnt she is following a Course leading to
Doctor of Philosophy at the Sri Jayawardenapura University (PIM) and a
course leading to M. Phil at the Law Faculty, University of Colombo. |
