Heta Wenuwen Ada Phase II launched

The Ministry of Power and Energy and Ministry of Education with SLT Mobitel launched the Phase II of 'Heta Wenuwen Ada,' a dedicated programme to encourage to save energy at home.

The first phase of 'Heta Wenuwen Ada was launched in March earlier this year and according to Power and Energy Minister, Patali Champika Ranawaka, the first phase of the programme had been a huge success and 2.1 million domestic electricity users from the Ceylon Electricity Board and Lanka Electricity Company (Private) Limited, participated in this initiative, thereby recording a saving of 84 gigawatte hours, which would otherwise have meant a cost of Rs 433 million to the national grid to generate via fuel energy.

The programme consisted of a competition, which was open to all school children islandwide and students who managed to reduce their domestic monthly electricity bill by 20% as against the previous month's bill, would have the opportunity of winning smart tabz, computers and educational scholarships from Sri LankaTelecom Mobitel.
