Mass cross-over to UPFA
United National Party regional leaders, organizers, members and
prominent activists and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) activists joined
the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) to strengthen the hands of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and to express their displeasure at the UNP
is impracticable and short sighted polices.
The UNP and JVP members who crossed over urged the entire nation to
rally round the UPFA led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to fulfill the
responsibilities towards the motherland overlooking petty differences.
Both the UNP and JVP local politicians and activists got on stage and
pledged support to the President in each of the UPFA political rallies
noting that they were doing so after being impressed by the progress in
social and economic development.
UNP regional leaders of six Pradeshiya Sabhas in Anuradhapura and JVP
organizer for Mihintale electorate and district treasurer Rohana
Pushpakumara, four JVP councillors joined hands with the UPFA at a rally
held at the Salgado Grounds Anuradhapura on August 18.
Meanwhile, a large group of diehard UNP supporters from the Ratnapura
District also joined the Freedom Alliance at the victorious rally held
at the Ratnapura Urban Council grounds recently.
The group comprised Imbulpe Pradeshiya Sabha former Chairman
Rathnapala Walalagoda and Balangoda UNP National Education Servants
Association chairman Shantha Deshapriya Suduwella and Nivithigala
Predeshiaya Sabha member Rohana Sampath Samarathunga.
Potuvil UNP organizer S.L.M. Saleem and Pradeshiya Sabha member
A.J.Thadudeen also joined the UPFA at Ampara rally. In addition, eight
members of the TNA also joined the government at Pulmude at the UPFA
rally recently. UNPer Dhammika Premachandra and Trincomalee district UNP
organizer Ranjani Serasinghe along with UNPers, I.P. Rajindran,
K.Surendran also joined the UPFA.
Dehiatthakandiaya Pradeshiya Sabha UNP organizer D.M.W. Nandana
Bandara and chairmen and secretaries and active members of the 36 UNP
branches of the Mahaweli C zone also joined the UPFA to strengthen and
support the hands of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to uplift the country.
