Over 500 UNPers cross over at President’s rally

Over 500 UNP activists in the Mahaweli C zone joined the SLFP and obtained Party membership at the Dehiattakandiya public rally presided by President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

They represented 36 out of the 47 UNP branch organisations in the Mahaweli C Zone.

In addition, a UNP candidate at the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council election obtained SLFP membership from the President on Tuesday at the public rally in Kinniya.

He had been a member of the UNP since 1977.

A woman activist, who was a dedicated long time UNP zonal organiser, also joined the SLFP aiming to strengthen the hands of the President who liberated the country. She received SLFP membership from the President at the Kinniya rally. Key members who joined the SLFP yesterday were B N W Nandana Bandara (organiser), former Provincial Councillor W M Jayathilaka, Samanalatenna branch organisation chairman Y M Wijerathna, and former UNP candidate at the local government election K K T Lalith.
