Three arrested for allegedly assaulting doctor

Police arrested three suspects for allegedly assaulting a doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said yesterday. He said the suspects, produced before the Anuradhapura magistrate, were placed in remand custody pending an identification parade.

The alleged assault on the doctor had taken place near the Dahaiyagama junction on Thursday night. The Police are on the look out for more suspects connected to the incident. SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena assured the culprits would be brought to book as soon as possible.

Sirisena said an inquiry to take disciplinary action against the candidate who was allegedly involved in the incident would commence after the elections.
