Minister orders stern action against milk powder price violators
Internal Trade and Cooperatives Minister Johnston Fernando yesterday
instructed Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) chairman Rumy Marzook to
strictly implement the law against milk powder companies and traders who
sell infant milk powder at higher prices exceeding the controlled price.
The minister made this instruction considering information he
received on certain traders selling infant milk powder over the
controlled price.
The CAA has raided 10 places during last week which sold infant milk
powder at higher prices than the controlled price.
The minister stressed the law is equal to everybody and if violated,
stern action would be taken. He also requested the public to inform the
CAA, if they encounter places where infant milk powder is sold at a
price higher than the controlled price.
The minister also said he would amend the gazette notification to
bring in a controlled price for infant milk powder to remove its gaps
and loopholes to escape the law. |
