President thanks Iran for assistance

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is in Iran to participate in the XVI Non Aligned Summit, yesterday called on his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Teheran. At the outset of bilateral talks between the two Heads of State, President Rajapaksa expressed his condolences to the Iranian government over destruction and deaths caused by earthquake that took place in North Western Iran last August.

DEW Acting External Affairs Minister

Human Resources Senior Minister D E W Gunasekera is the Acting External Affairs Minister until Minister Prof G L Peiris returns to the country, a ministry release said yesterday. Prof Peiris is in Teheran attending the NAM Summit.
