Minister affirms: No fuel shortage

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has confirmed to the ministry that there would be no fuel shortage in the local market, Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha said. Responding to a question by a journalist at a press conference at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday,

The minister said a ship carrying a petrol consignment of 35,000 tons was to arrive yesterday afternoon. He said a special team has been sent to Iran to discuss the oil imports to the country in the wake of sanctions against Iran.

He said the US has granted a special six months grace period to import 10 oil shipments from Iran. He said the CPC usually stores adequate fuel stocks for two weeks while the refinery produces more petrol and diesel for the local market.

He affirmed there would be no fuel shortage in the country in the coming days.
