EOA awards scholarships to deserving children

Team from Executive Officers’ Association of Holcim Lanka Ltd

The Executive Officers' Association of Holcim Lanka Ltd., recently awarded its annual scholarships to deserving children of present and past (retired) employees of the Company, which has been the established practice for the EOA, to enable and encourage ambitious students to reach out for their goals by providing them financial assistance.

In 2012, five students were awarded scholarships. They were students of our past and current employees, who had qualified for 2010/2011 University entrance. Just over Rs. 500,000 would be disbursed to them over the next four years.

In addition, for the first time, two students at Holcim's Enterprise-based Vocational Education Center (fondly known as EVE Center) were also awarded scholarships to complete their vocational training in Puttalam and obtain the NVQ Certification ranging from Level 2 - 4. A qualified student would also be eligible to obtain a scholarship for higher levels of study in the vocational stream, reaching up to NVQ 5 - 6 level.

EOA's President Venura Fernando, said while awarding the scholarships at a function held last week, "EOA hasdalways supported the educational ambitions of young students. It gives me great pleasure on behalf of the EOA, to be handing these awards today.

The scholarships are a long-standing tradition and would continue for time to come. I would like to invite more parents to register for this programme and support their children. I would also like to thank and acknowledge the continuous support of our Chairman Manilal Fernando and our CEO Stefan Huber."

The Executive Officers' Association of Holcim Lanka Ltd., is a 45 year old registered Association. The EOA seeks to undertake many CSR initiatives in the field of education, both traditional and vocational.

Every year, scholarships have been awarded to deserving students based on merit and other causes relating to construction, are also served.
