A symposium on ‘Relic Worship:
History, Archaeology and Religion’ was held yesterday at the
Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations
and Strategic Studies. This has been organized by the
Kadirgamar Institute in collaboration with the Centre for
Contemporary Indian Studies (CCIS) and Pali and Buddhist
Studies Unit of the University of Colombo. At the opening
ceremony, External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris and
Minister of Culture, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation
of India Kumari Selja along with Indian High Commissioner in
Sri Lanka Ashok Kantha, addressed the gathering. Here, Prof.
Peiris presents a copy of the book, ‘The Journey of the Holy
Tree-Cultural Interface Between India and Sri Lanka’ to Ms.

The newly constructed Akkaraipattu
Travellers Shopping Complex was opened by Local Government
and Provincial Council Minister A.L.M.Athaulla recently.

Indian artist Alarmel Valli performed
at the Nallur Sankiliyan Thoppu last week. Indian High
Commissioner Ashok K Kantha was the Chief Guest. The
Northern Province Governor, Indian High Commission and the
India - Sri Lanka Foundation jointly organised the dance to
mark the annual Nallur festival and India's Independence
