The exposition of the Sacred Kapilavastu Relics at Manelwatte Maha
Viharaya will end at 6am today after which the Relics will be taken to
the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Viharaya, Presidential Co-ordinator on Religious
Affairs Ven Getamanne Gunananda Thera said.
Nearly one million devotees worshipped the Sacred Relics during the
two and half days’ exposition at Manelwatte Temple, the Thera said.
The Sacred Relics will be placed for around one hour at the Kelani
Rajamaha Vihara for members of the Maha Sangha in Kelaniya to pay homage
before being taken to the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Viharaya.
The Kapilavastu Relics will be brought to the Pellmadulla Rajamaha
Vihara in the Ratnapura district in a special helicopter today at 8am,

Birendra Singh said. Thousands of devotees stood in a 10km queue for
hours braving the elements to worship the Kapilavastu Relics at
Manelwatta Viharaya, Kelaniya from Sunday. The Relics from the National
Museum in Delhi were brought to Sri Lanka after three decades since the
first Exposition in 1978.
