One killed over land dispute

A man and a woman were arrested by Tangalle Police in connection with an assault incident where a man was killed and another hospitalised on Saturday at Palathuduwa, Tangalle.

Police said J A Chandrasiri, 49, of Tuduwa and another were assaulted following a personal dispute between two families on Saturday.

Both were admitted to Tangalle Hospital and later transferred to Matara and Karapitiya Hospitals. One succumbed to his injuries on Monday at the Matara Hospital.

Tangalle Police are investigating.


Vehicle disappears after knocking down woman

Lindula Police launched a search operation to arrest a driver who knocked down a woman and sped off on Lindula - Dayagama road on Monday.

P Selvarani,32, of Pasiban estate, Agarakanda died in the incident.

Police found her body near the Agarakanda weaving mill following a tip-off.

Her body was sent to the Nuwara Eliya Hospital morgue for a post-mortem.


Drowned man's body found

A body of a man who drowned at Galle Face on Sunday was found by Fort Police.

The body of M Y Thanir Hassan, 39, was handed over to his relatives after the post-mortem.


Girl dies in accident

A girl died in Nagoda when she was allegedly knocked down by her father while reversing a van.

Nagoda Police arrested the man who allegedly knocked down his daughter while reversing his van at Walakumbura, Nagoda on Monday.

Police said the suspect had reversed the van, unaware the girl was behind the vehicle.

Usara Sesadi Wejesekara was rushed to Karapitiya Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Nagoda Police are investigating.


Arrested with heroin

A suspect was arrested with 2.400 grammes of heroin in his possession near a temple in Pokunuwita, Horana on Monday by Horana Police.

The suspect, a resident of Cheenakoratuwa, Galle was produced before the Horana magistrate.


Wife dies following attack by husband

A woman died when she was attacked with a pick axe by her husband at Uva Tissapura, Mapakadawewa in Mahiyanganaya on Monday. The suspect who attempted to commit suicide by taking poison after the incident was admitted to Mahiyanganaya Hospital.

P G Indralatha Kumari, 40, died in the incident.

Mahiyangana Police are investigating.


Victim arrests suspect

A man who robbed Rs 580,875 from a another was caught by the victim at Ihala Imbulgoda, Weliweriya on Monday. The owner of the money had chased the suspect while he was running with the stolen money and handed him to Weliweriya Police.

The suspect was produced before the Gampaha magistrate yesterday.
