Asoka Vidyalaya OBA anniversary celebration
The 10th anniversary celebration of Colombo 10 Asoka Vidyalaya Old
Boys' Association will be held at the school grounds (Battaramulla
Water's Edge) on August 18 from 8am to midnight.
The programme includes a six-a-side cricket tournament, a fair and a
musical evening featuring the Blue Shadows band and popular vocalists.
The Old Boys' Association has also organised a series of religious
ceremonies with the participation of former teachers.
India's Independence Day celebrations in Kandy
The Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy will celebrate
India's 66th Independence Day today.
The ceremony will be held at the residence of the Assistant High
Commissioner of India, Kandy at 9am.
The flag hoisting ceremony and a cultural programme by schoolchildren
will be the highlights of the ceremony.
Lailathul Qudur programme
The Lailathul Qudur programme organised by the Masjidul Badriyeen,
Nawala Jumma Mosque, Sri Jayawardanapura, Kotte will be held today from
9pm.
Isha prayers will be conducted by Mowlavi Alhaj M N M Fardhy,
Tharaveeh prayers by Hafiz M Nazem at 9.15pm and Thasbeeh prayers by
Alhaj Mowlavi M B Mubarak at 10.45am, mosque Trustee Alhaj M H Abu
Haniffa said.
Religious lectures will be also held as follows: Midnight to 12.45am
Hafiz Iqbal Qadri, 12.45am to 1pm Vithr prayers by Hafis M Naeem, 1am to
1.45am Dikkr Majliz by Mukkdam Naim and 1.45am to 2.15am Thowbha by
Mowlavi Alhaj N M Imthiyas.
Eye clinic
A free eye clinic jointly organised by the Sri Narada Foundation and
Warehouse Project will be held at the Warehouse Project auditorium on
August 25 from 9 am onwards.
Sri Narada Foundation Founder Ven. Kolonnawe Narada Thera and
Warehouse Project Founder Kerby D.Lanerolle will also be present on the
occasion.
Buddhist discussion
The next Buddhist panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be held
on August 19 at 10 am at its Borella building on "Who is a Buddhist?".
The panellists are Maharagama YMBA president Asoka Devendra and
Maharagama Cancer Hospital Director Dr. Kanishka Karunaratne with Rajah
Kuruppu as moderator.
Cigarette butt ignites fire
More than a quarter acre of forest land was destroyed in a fire which
erupted behind Madhu Church in Mannar on Monday.
Police and the people in the area doused the fire. Police suspect a
cigarette butt discarded by a pilgrim might have ignited the fire.
Mannar Police are investigating. |
