One million reward for Kahawatte double murder tip

Police will reward Rs one million for accurate information in connection with the Kahawatte double murder case where a mother and a daughter were killed and their home in Kotakethana was set on fire on July 19.

L A Premawathi, 63, and her daughter H P Pushpakumari, 33, died in the incident.

The CID is investigating the murder.

Teenager drowns

A 14-year-old youth who got into difficulties while bathing at sea in Seenigama, died at Karapitiya Hospital on admission on Sunday.

Police said the victim Gallage Gayan of Telijjawila and another boy were brought ashore by others after they fell into difficulties and rushed to hospital.

Gayan was pronounced dead on admission to hospital.

Investigations are continuing.

Fire in forest reserve

A fire that broke out at a section of Medamahanuwara Vaithalawawatte forest reserve in Ududumbara, spread to other parts due to the strong wind in the area.

Fire destroy two shops

Two textile shops in Maskeliya were completely gutted in a fire that broke out early yesterday.

The fire was doused by Maskeliya Police with public support, before it spread to other shops.

Maskeliya Police are investigating.

From brothel to remand

Seven suspects including six women arrested in a brothel at Mount Lavinia were remanded until August 20 by the Mount Lavinia magistrate.

The suspects, a man who led the illegal business and the women, were arrested on Saturday when Mount Lavinia Police raided the place.
