Nanda Mathew will reveal conspirators against Gamini Dissanayake – Navin

“Similar to the conspiracy to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 2005 Presidential election certain UNPers launched a conspiracy to defeat Gamini Dissanayake at the 1994 Presidential election.

“Uva Governor Nanda Mathew is aware of the persons behind that conspiracy and he will vouch that there was a conspiracy, said State Management Reforms Minister Navin Dissanayake at a UPFA election rally held at Mahindagama Welikanda, Polonnaruwa recently.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena also participated in this rally.

Minister Dissanayake said Gamini Dissanayake became Opposition Leader after defeating Ranil Wickremesinghe who had been Prime Minister for one and a half years.

Thereafter Gamini Dissanayake became the UNP presidential candidate and it was very clear that there was a conspiracy to defeat him at the Presidential election. The person who was fully aware of the person behind this conspiracy is Nanda Mathew who is now serving as The Governor of the Uva Province. Governor Mathew who is the son of late Minister Cyril Mathew will reveal the name of the person who conspired to defeat Gamini Dissanayake at the Presidential election by advising people to burn his posters and desist from holding election meeting to support him.

Minister Dissanayake said certain feudalists in this country prevented ordinary people from coming to power.

Although late Gamini Dissanayake could not defeat the conspiracy hatched against him, President Rajapaksa was able to defeat conspirators by uniting patriotic forces in the country.

“Following President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory 17 UNP Parliamentarians led by Karu Jayasuriya and including me joined the government to, strengthen the Presidents hands to help him defeat terrorism and steer the country towards rapid progress.

The country has attained visible development and progress under President Rajapaksa, he added.
