Yasaratne GAMAGE
The defending FA Cup champions Sri Lanka Army SC defeated Renown SC
by 4-2 in a penalty shoot out after the game ended 1-all in the Holcim
FA Cup second semi final played at the City Football Complex yesterday.
Renown led in the first half with a goal by M N M Fazal in the 36th
minute. But could not continue the trend in the second half against the
attacking soldiers. The equalizer came for the Army in the 65th minute
from Sudarshana Gunasinghe.
The semi final was a close tussle with some fine display of football
by both teams. How ever Renown goal keeper, Satheeskumar missed the
first penalty while they missed their fourth penalty as well.
Army in the meantime did their best to collect four goals in a row
and secured a place in the final to be played at Nawalapitiya against
Navy SC on August 18.
The Army apart from their poor passing on few occasions occupied the
opponents goal area for the most of the 90 minutes. They also missed a
couple of good chances of scoring.
Renown on the other hand were lethargic and failed to hit the net off
some good passes from both flanks of the field. |
