'Dhamma education important for moral development'

Dhamma education is very important for moral development in a country, All Ceylon Sasanarakshaka Balamandala chairman Welimitiyawe Kusala Dhamma Thera said.

The thera was addressing a press conference at the Information Department recently.

The 117th Dhamma School commemoration ceremony will be held under the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Nuwara-Eliya town hall on August 5, Thera said.

The ceremony will be held under the patronage of the Most Ven Theras of the three chapters and under participation of Prime Minister and Buddhsasana and Religious Affairs Minister D M Jayaratna and Buddhsasana and Religious Affairs Deputy Minister M K A D S Gunawardana.

The Buddhist Affairs Department has drawn up a plan to provide Rs 2,000 valued scholarships for 240 students to mark the All Ceylon Dhamma Schools Day.

In line with the All Ceylon Dhamma Schools Day, the Department also will implement a Dhamma school flag Day.
