Those with vested interests blowing things out of proportion -

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said the government was able to
stop killings that were the order of the day in the past, with the
eradication of terrorism.
President Rajapaksa said certain elements by taking undue advantage
of certain incidents were trying to create an opinion that a crime wave
was prevalent in the country.
President Rajapaksa said certain elements with vested interests were
talking of drugs, armed groups and underworld elements at a time when
the government had launched a full scale exercise to control these
nefarious activities and bring all sorts of culprits to book.
He said minor incidents that took place in the country have earned
much public attention with the eradication of terrorism and certain
elements were trying to create public opinion that a crime wave is
prevailing in the country by making use of this situation.
The President was speaking at a ceremony at President’s House in
Kandy to mark the successful conclusion of the Esala Perahera in Kandy.
He also said students should be enriched with discipline and ethics
and urged everybody to come forward to uplift the country. |
