Papyrus expands digital printing business

Sri Lanka's leading fine paper supplier Papyrus Papers (Pvt) Ltd., has opened a larger, better-equipped Papyrus Print Point outlet in Colombo, significantly expanding its operations in high-end digital printing.

This follows the creation of a new company, Papyrus Print (Pvt) Ltd., as a specialist in on-demand digital printing focussed on the 'quick print' customer segment.

The 3,000 square-foot Papyrus Print Point at the intersection of Daisy Villa Avenue and the Galle Road at Bambalapitiya houses a sophisticated HP Indigo Digital Press recently imported by the company for the new location.

"The new state-of-the-art machine uses advanced HP electroink technology and digital offset process to deliver outstanding on-demand offset quality prints with HP Indigo's best-in-class color accuracy and consistency, with the advantage of variable printing on virtually any paper, board, or a wide range of substrates including specialty media," an official from the company said.

"Over the past 10 years, Papyrus Papers has supplied the paper for some of the most creative and demanding print jobs undertaken in Sri Lanka," said Ashan Abeyesundere, the company's CEO. "While continuing to support offset as well as digital printers with the finest papers available, we have identified a demand for greater creativity, versatility, flexibility and quality in the quick-print market. The new Papyrus Print Point is intended to serve this segment, leveraging the capabilities of the HP Indigo Digital Press."

He said the company also planned to fully explore the potential for variable printing, in which elements such as text, graphics and images may be changed from one printed piece to the next, without stopping or slowing down the printing process.

The Papyrus Print Point will also help customers create products like unique photo story books with double-sided printing, customised stationery, business cards and a wide range of communications tools that require customised printing, Abeyesundere said.

Best known as the sole agent in Sri Lanka for the European heritage fine paper brand Conqueror, Papyrus Papers celebrated its 10th anniversary in June 2012. The company recently adopted a vibrant new logo to support its plans to expand beyond fine paper into allied areas of business, such as digital printing.

Papyrus Papers is also the authorised distributor in Sri Lanka for more than 30 million royalty-free and rights-managed stock photography from Glow Images and Photosindia.
