SLIIT students emerge champions at Calcey Hackathon
Three final year students of SLIIT walked away with the grand prize
at the recently organised Calcey Hackathon, an inter-university
hackathon hosted by innovations company Calcey Technologies in
commemoration of the firms 10th anniversary.
The winners with Nuwan Kodagoda (Head - Department of IT) at
SLIIT, Professor Lalith Gamage (CEO- SLIIT)-centre, and Dr.
Malitha Wijesundara (Dean Computing) at SLIIT. |
The competition attracted teams from all major state universities.
Teams had to develop a solution to a real world problem given to them
by coding continuously for two days.
The SLIIT team, comprising final year Software Engineering and IT
students Amodth Jayawardena,Thameera Sajith and Rashith Jayasekara,
presented a solution for an Android Mobile application and a web based
application.
The goal of a hackathon is to have programmers 'hack together' a
working piece of software that addresses a real-world product
requirement, in double-quick time. The emphasis in a hackathon is on
meeting the specified product requirement, using whatever coding
shortcuts available for the programmers.
SLIIT recently introduced a new Software Engineering specialization
in its B.Sc Special (Honours) Degree in Information Technology. The
first software engineering batch will graduate in February 2013. |
