SL Army Inter Regiment Boxing Meet 2012:

Service Corps emerge overall boxing champs

C I Perera of Ordnance Corps beat A B Chandimal of Service Corps in the light flyweight (49kg) category final bout and was adjudged the Best Boxer at the Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Boxing Championship which concluded at the Army Physical Training School, Panagoda last Tuesday.

Perera fought confidently from the begining and never let him opponent to pose a threat. He easily overcame the opponent on points (12-7).

Fearless C E Bandara of Military Police was beaten by W M Karunaratne of Sinha Regiment in a closely fought Lightweight (60kg) final bout by 77-70. Due to Perera's solid display, he was awarded the Best Looser's Award.

Service Corps team won the overall championship, scoring 27 points throughout the tournament. The Ordnance Corps team became second with 23 points while Sinha Regiment scored 16 points to secure the third place.

The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Army Boxing Committee with the participation of boxers from 17 regiments. Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was the chief guest at the award ceremony.
