Around 28,000 wanted suspects arrested

The Police yesterday said that around 28,000 suspects who have outstanding warrants against them have been arrested during the last month from July 1 to July 31, as a result of islandwide operations.

According to the Police Media Unit, IGP N.K.Illangakoon has ordered Police to arrest the suspects who are wanted on outstanding arrest warrants, in connection with the Katuwana shooting incident.

He had later instructed Senior DIGs in charge of provinces to launch operations to crack down on suspects with outstanding warrants and court notice. According to the Police Media Unit, most of the arrested persons are residents of the Western Province.

Police have arrested 7,103 persons from the Western Province.
