Suspect nabbed with heroin

The Terrorist Investigation Department arrested a suspect, a resident of Chunnakam and seized 39.920 grammes of heroin hidden at a house in Wellawatte on Monday. The suspect is being interrogated.

Fire in forest reserve

Badulla Police extinguished a forest fire in the Namunukula Forest Reserve on Tuesday. No one was injured.

Raid on mobile brothel

Aluthgama Police raided a mobile brothel in a three wheeler and arrested three persons including a woman at Mullapitiya junction on Kandevihara Road, Aluthgama on Monday.

The suspects were remanded until August 8 by the Kalutara magistrate. Aluthgama Police are investigating.

Indonesian ship crew member dies

Crew of a Taiwanese ship which arrived at the Colombo Harbour on Tuesday, lodged a complaint at the Harbour Police stating an Indonesian crew member had died in the Indian high sea on July 25. A post- mortem indicated Terianto ,27, died of a heart attack. His body was handed over to the shipping company to be sent to Indonesia.

Body found

Hambantota Police found a body of a man on the road in Gonnoruwa, Hambantota on Tuesday. No external injuries were visible, the Police reported. The victim was attired in a black and ash T shirt and a sarong. Police seek public help to ascertain his identity. The post- mortem was due yesterday.

Suspects remanded

The Chilaw magistrate remanded eight suspects out of the 12 arrested for attempting to illegally migrate from Chilaw, until August 8 while four were released when produced before the Chilaw magistrate on Tuesday.
