Wheel chairs for disabled Navy personnel

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake donated 11 wheel chairs and 10 pairs of artificial limbs to Naval personnel who were disabled in action, at a special ceremony at the Naval Headquarters recently.

These donations are worth over Rs three million. The Sri Lanka Navy has launched a number of welfare programmes for the welfare of the Naval personnel who were disabled in action during the humanitarian operation, conducted to protect the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Many other welfare facilities have been also provided to the disabled naval personnel, which include the distribution of crutches and spectacles, conducting medical and eye clinics, assistance for self employment ventures, interest-free loan facilities, solve salary anomalies, provision of school equipment for the children and financial assistance to build and renovate houses.
