Soldier killed by train

A soldier was knocked down and killed by a train at Bambalapitiya when he stepped onto the rail track. This was revelled at the inquest into the death of Bomulatenna Gedara Saman Wimalasiri, 38, a Corporal, held by City Coroner Edward Ahangama.

Giving evidence witness Maj. Gamini Shantha Bandara attached to the Poonaryn Camp said on the day of the incident, he arrived in Colombo before meeting Wimalasiri.

Three persons including Wimalasiri travelled in a vehicle to the Bambalapitiya beach side.

Two of them including the witness wanted to get some food.

They walked a short distance when he heard a commotion. He saw a crowd lifting Wimalasiri to a vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the National Hospital.
