Principal hacked to death

The principal of Minuwandeniya Vidyalaya of Yakkalamulla, Galle, had been hacked to death at his residence early on July 29. The slain principal had been identified as Mahanama Edirisinghe (52), of Ell-ihala, Yakkalamulla, Galle, a father of three.

As reported, an aggravated dispute between the slain principal’s eldest son and a group of villagers had led to the killing. The group who had disputed with the Principal’s son had later come to their residence the day before the incident (27) and attacked the inmates, including the wife, two sons and the daughter of the principal. Following the assault on his family members, the Principal had lodged a complaint regarding the incident to the Yakkalamulla Police.

The attackers angered over the police complaint had arrived for the second time at the Principal’s home and cut him using sharp weapons. The Principal’s body was lying at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital awaiting the post mortem to be held yesterday afternoon.

The Yakkalamulla Police are investigating and have already arrested five persons in connection with the murder. The suspects were to be produced before the Baddegama Magaistrate.
