Korea National Jamboree from August 2
The Korea National Jamboree will be held from August 2-8 in Goseong,
Gangwon Province, Korea. The theme will be smart scouting.
A scout leader and two scouts are fully sponsored by the Korea
Parliamentary Scouts Union under the third World Scout Parliamentary
Union (WSPU) Youth Exchange Programme. Two Scouts are sponsored by Korea
Scout Association under “Operation Sorak”.
The Jamboree will have over 500 participants and scouts from over 30
countries including 700 overseas participants from Japan, USA, Hong
Kong, Thailand, Australia, Taiwan, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Burunei,
Belarus, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, Bhutan, Ukraine, South Africa,
Cambodia, Russia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Congo, Nepal,
Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Fiji, Maldives, India and Madagascar.
The Jamboree activities will include sailing, mountain climbing,
adventure activities, sightseeing, water sports, cultural events,
international night and many scout activities. The scouts who accomplish
the required number of activities will be presented with an award.
Sri Lanka will have an exhibition stall/pavilion where Ceylon Tea and
sweet meats will be served to visitors.
The Sri Lanka contingent for the Jamboree were invited for a
reception at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea by Jong Moon Choi at
the Embassy on July 27 where the contingent was able to get important
information on Korea.The Bon Voyage Ceremony and official handing over
of the Sri Lanka National Flag Ceremony was held at Sri Lanka Scouts
Headquarters. Prof. Nimal De Silva, Chief Commissioner, Shiraz Salih,
Deputy Chief Commissioner, Janaprith Fernando International
Commissioner.
Senior Commissioners of Sri Lanka Scouts, Scout Leaders of the
participants, family members and well-wishers were present. |
