Samanmali PRIYASHANTHI
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake yesterday said President
Mahinda Rajapaksa has offered maximum relief to the students who may
have been subjected to injustice due to the Z score issue, by
facilitating the admission of some of these students to the
universities.
The President has ordered the minister to provide him with details of
how many such students could be accommodated in a single university and
the number of students who could be admitted to all the universities.
Minister Dissanayake said these details are being obtained from
universities immediately on the directive of President Rajapaksa.
He said the university intake will be increased as a solution to the
Z score issue.
The minister said the Department of Examinations has already given an
opportunity to these students to reapply for the AL examination and
those who fail to gain university admission this time would be afforded
an opportunity to gain university entrance through a special Cabinet
paper.
The government and the Higher Education Ministry are making every
possible effort to offer maximum relief to students who may have been
subjected to injustice due to the Z score issue and the necessary
guidance and funds are provided by the President. The Z score issued by
the Ministry was annulled by the Supreme Court and the new Z score marks
were released on the directive of the Supreme Court.
