Nirasha, Laksiri clinch Squash Federation Open titles
Up and coming Ravindu Laksiri of DS Senanayaka Vidyalaya created a
major upset beating top seed Gihan Suwaris while seasoned Nirasha Guruge
routed Mihiliya Methsarani at the finals of the Sri Lanka Squash
Federation (SLSF) Open - 2012 Championship held at the Sugathadasa
indoor stadium courts recently.
16 year old Laksiri who was determined from the first game finished
in a thrilling five setter claming his first major title. Nirasha Guruge,
former National champion had no problems in taming teenage sensation of
Sirimawo BV, Methsarani in straight sets.
The Secretary general of Asian Squash Federation k Sivanesan graced
the event as the chief guest. Sevanesan predicted that Sri Lanka juniors
have the potential to beat top Asian players very soon. He praised the
enthusiasm shown by squash players of Sri Lanka over the years and
appreciated theefforts of the SLSF. |
