Two nabbed for battery theft

A man and a 15-year-old student were arrested in connection with theft of batteries from a private finance firm in Kalalpitiya, Pasyala on Wednesday.

Nittambuwa Police investigations revealed the suspects stole five batteries worth Rs 80,000 from vehicles on July 14.

Police seized the batteries from the suspects' possession.

One suspect was remanded while the student was released on Rs 50,000 sureties when produced before the Attanagalla magistrate.

Nittambuwa Police are investigating.


Man arrested with fake note

A man who purchased a tea packet by producing a Rs 1,000 counterfeit note was arrested by Watawala Police on Tuesday.

The arrest was made following a complaint by a shopkeeper.

The suspect, a resident of Gotatuwa, was released on Rs 3,500 cash bail and Rs 25,000 sureties by the Hatton magistrate.


Gun, bullets found at home

Yatawatte Police arrested a man with an unlicensed repeater gun and two bullets during a raid at his home at Polwatta, Walwela on Wednesday.

He was produced before the Matale magistrate yesterday.


Treasure hunters netted

Three persons were arrested while hunting for treasure by digging earth near a precipice in Uduwara, Badulla on Wednesday.

A three wheeler and implements were seized by the STF.

The suspects were produced before the Passara magistrate yesterday.


Death of man: four arrested

Four suspects arrested in connection with the death of a person in Kandeketiya, were remanded until July 26 by the Kuliyapitiya magistrate.

Police said the man died after being assaulted with clubs.
