Two charred bodies found

Police found two charred bodies of women in a room at their home in Kotakethana, Kahawatte yesterday morning. The deceased identified as U D Premawathi, 65, and her daughter, Pushpa Kumari, 33.

The room where the two bodies were found has been gutted while there was no damage to other parts of the home, initial police investigations revealed.

The room had caught fire around 3am yesterday. The magisterial inquiry into the incident was conducted by Palmadulla magistrate Niranjala Dias.

The government analyst also has started investigations. The incident is the third incident where a pair of women were found dead in the same area. The latest incident occurred about a kilometre away from the house where police found two charred bodies of two sisters two months ago.

The CID has taken over the investigations.
