Vietnam wants enhanced ties with Sri Lanka

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung congratulated Sri Lanka on
her significant achievements with regard to economic development and
reconciliation since the eradication of terrorism three years ago. He
reiterated the wish of the government of Vietnam to work closely in
partnership with Sri Lanka in responding to current challenges.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister said so when External Affairs Minister
Professor G L Peiris paid a courtesy call on Vietnamese Prime Minister
Nguyen Tan Dung at the Prime Minister’s Office in Hanoi on Wednesday.
During their conversation Minister Peiris informed Prime Minister Dung
of the conclusions reached at the Third Meeting of the Sri Lanka -
Vietnam Joint Commission of Economic, Scientific and Technological
Co-operation co-chaired by Minister Peiris and the Foreign Minister of
Vietnam.
The principal areas for collaboration between Sri Lanka and Vietnam,
identified at the Joint Commission are defence co-operation, tourism,
the oil and gas sector, agriculture, fisheries and financial services.
