SL health sector internationally appreciated - minister
Sri Lanka is the only country implementing the National Immunization
Programme fully and is 100 percent when compared to other countries,
Health Minister Maitripala Sirisena said.
Sri Lanka provides totally completed prenatal and postnatal care
through a well experienced and trained medical staff, he said.
He said the country has attained the highest position in the health
sector throughout the South Asian region, and the health sector has
received international level appreciations. The minister was addressing
the inauguration ceremony of the International Congress organized by the
Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) to mark its 125th anniversary held
at the BMICH.
The Minister said: “At present Sri Lanka has achieved numerous
development goals in the health sector. I would like to invite Sri
Lankan doctors working abroad to come to Sri Lanka and serve the
motherland.
“They left the country due to the terrorism which prevailed in the
past three decades.
At present Sri Lanka has a peaceful environment and is on a fast
track to development. So there is nothing to fear.
“There is a demand for Sri Lankan medical staff throughout the world.
Our doctors serve in many countries. But Sri Lanka lacks technical
knowledge to improve the country's health sector' the minister
concluded.
A large number of doctors island wide and working in foreign
countries participated. SLMA is the oldest medical association in Sri
Lanka and Minister Siripala appreciated its dedication towards the
country's health sector development.
