Move to upgrade dilapidated small tanks

The North Central Provincial Council rehabilitated dilapidated small tanks in the Anuradhapura district assisted by the Japanese International Co-operation Agency under its emergency natural disaster rehabilitation project.

The programme was inaugurated by commencing renovation work of the Thalawa, Kandalakkulama minor irrigation tank recently. Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake inaugurated the project.

The programme is being implemented at a cost of Rs. 10 million. Once completed, the tank will cater to 200 acres of cultivation benefiting 75 farmer families. The Chief Minister said it has been planned to deepen the small tanks filled with sedimentation to store more water.

Thalawa Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Upali Gunawardane, villagers along with government officials participated.
