Lanka, Italy luncheon meeting a success

Sri Lanka is very positive in increasing ties with the Indo Italian chamber in order to have positive growth results in the near future with Italy.

Daya Raathnayake, President of the Sri Lanka Italy Business Council also stated that the trade between Sri Lanka and Italy is on an increase over the past few years which have shown encouraging results to the businessmen trading with Italy.

The luncheon meeting organized by the Sri Lanka Italy Business council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently focused on import and export opportunities and challenges in the Italian market for Sri Lankan exporters and importers.

“This is a positive sign that Sri Lankan businessmen have included Italy as a country to have growing partnerships with and vice versa, said the President at this meeting.”

“Sri Lanka and Italy Business linkages will be further strengthened in the years to come” said Sergio Sgambato, Secretary General of the Indo Italian Chamber at the Luncheon meeting.

The Sri Lanka Italy Business Council was formed in October 1998, under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The Council focuses on the objectives of ‘promoting investment, trade and joint venture between Sri Lanka and Italy’. It is one of the twenty bilateral business Councils that function under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The groundwork for the formation of the Council was laid by a proposal made by the then Ambassador of Italy in Sri Lanka His Excellency Maurizio Teucci to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in 1997.
