One dies in Mt Lavinia tyre shop fire

One person died and three others were injured in a fire at a tyre shop near the Hotel Road junction in Mount Lavinia around 1.30am Tuesday.

Acting Police Media Spokesman SP Sajeeva Medawatte said the fire which started the previous night, was put out within five hours with the assistance of Fire Brigade Units of the Colombo Municipal Council and Dehiwala - Mount Lavinia Municipal Council and the Air Force. Mount Lavinia Police said four workers were inside the three storey tyre shop when the fire erupted.

“Three were rescued with minor injuries while the other was upstairs and trapped inside when the fire engulfed the shop,” Police said.
