Three ambassadors and a High

A bronze bust of Rabindranath Tagore,
gifted by the Indian Culture Ministry was unveiled by
External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris at the Colombo
University main library yesterday. This was to commemorate
the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath

Galle in Sinhala means where bullock
carts are parked. Arabian traveller Ibn Batuta talked about
'Qali' during his visit to Galle in 1344 AD by which time
Galle had become an international harbour. The Galle
district covers a land area of 1,635 sq kms with 10
electorates. Galle Fort has been declared a world heritage

A 74 member Sri Lankan Army
contingent comprising seven officers and 27 other ranks left
the island on Monday afternoon to take up peace keeping
duties in Haiti. They also took with them two dogs specially
trained for tracing explosives. Here they are seen at the
Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake prior to
their departure. Another batch of 76 personnel including
three officers and 73 other ranks are expected to join them.

Fort Police station officers led by
acting OIC Inspector K Premaratne assisted by a large number
of state and private sector employees engaging in a campaign
to clean the Central Mail Exchange premises under a

An eight feet long crocodile was
caught in the Negombo lagoon by six persons who went to
the lagoon to catch crabs. The Negombo Police were informed
