Water Supply and Drainage Ministry Additional Secretary Sarath
Chandrasiri Vithana and 21 officials from the ministries of Finance and
Planning, Public Administration and Home Affairs, Economic Development,
Industry and Commerce, Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Land
and Land Development and Local Government and Provincial Councils,
attended the Capacity Building for Economic Development country-specific
fellowship programme in Korea from June 7 to 23, as part of the 2012
Korea International Cooperation Agency's (KOICA) fellowship programme to
Sri Lanka.
This programme was specially designed to provide Sri Lankan
officials, responsible for various economic development agendas at
national and local level, with opportunities to obtain knowledge through
theoretical lectures on Korean economic development, rural development,
fiscal and financial policy, business development and trade promotion
policy, environmental conservation, and income distribution.
Under this training course, group discussions and presentations were
held to seek ways to attend to major agricultural development issues in
Sri Lanka.
In addition, participants also went on field trips to the Korean
Farmers School, Posco, Hyundai Heavy Industry, Hyundai Motors, Kotra,
etc to better understand the Korean economy.
With the aim to support human resource development in Sri Lanka which
is deemed critical to national development, KOICA is making efforts to
offer various thematic fellowship programmes to Lanka officials.
