The Bodu Bala Sena requested the authorities to hold a special
inquiry on illegal activities against Buddhism which have been
increasing throughout the country. "We have a lot of confidence in
Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. We expect that, the Defense
Secretary will intervene to stop unethical activities against Buddhism,
Chief Secretary Bodu Bala Sena Ven Galagodaathte Gnanasara Thera said.
The Thera was addressing a press conference at the Sambuddhathwa
Jayanthi Mandiraya yesterday.
The press conference was held to explain the Galle, Wanduramba
incident on Sunday.
"There are a number of activities against Buddhism taking place
countrywide. The Wanduramba conflict was caused by a person who had been
saying for a long time that he attained enlightenment. His activities
caused many problems to Buddhists in the country, "the Thera said.
"Other than that a book named "METHE BUDUN PAHALA WU WAGAI" had been
issued to the market illegally. "The other issue is some individuals
posing as monks in the Ratnapura area are saying that the Buddha was
born in Sri Lanka and not in India. They are saying that, they also
attained Buddhahood, "the Thera said.
"The Bodu Bala Sena expects that the relevant authorities in the
country will take suitable action on these matters immediately, 'the
Thera said.
