Former DGHS, SL Navy passes away
Surgeon Rear Admiral Nandana Athulugama VSV, USP, MBBS (Cey), MD
(Radiology), MCMA, who served in the regular force of Sri Lanka Navy for
25 years from October 1, 1979 to September 25, 2005 and rose up to the
highest chair of Director General Health Services at Naval headquarters,
passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 23, 2012.
During his period as Director General, Health Services, he was
responsible for introducing many healthcare systems for war victims and
wounded in action personnel.
He was bestowed with the Vishista Seva Vibhushana and Uttama Seva
Padakkama - the medals awarded for exceptional ability, merit, exemplary
conduct and unblemished naval career.
He opted to retire from SLN on reaching his 55th birthday on
September 25, 2005 to pursue his professional medical career, paving the
way for other medical officers to climb the ladder.
He was an outstanding and brilliant product of Royal College,
Colombo. He leaves behind his wife, Chanmain, daughter Sheron and son Dr
Niroshan.
Funeral will take place at 3 pm at Kanatte, Borella, with full naval
honours. |
